Message From The Director

The Director's Article of Appreciation

We are regularly reminded of the fact that we are blessed here at House of Hope. I can actually feel the presence of God moving and blessing our guests as they are making decisions on what direction they need to take after their brief stay at the HOH.

After each guest has been with us for about a week and a half I have a one-onone conversation with each person concerning how things are going toward finding employment. I make suggestions and if at that particular time I know of some place that might be hiring, I work with them in pursuing those leads. Some of our guests feel that they simply cannot find work in our area. When that happens we talk about other areas that might have more jobs available. We talk about the possibility of going to Durham Rescue Mission, which is a long term mission that is devoted to helping its guests make a life change developing job skills while they are there. If there is some
other town they would like to relocate to because of family or employment reasons, we may go online and see what jobs are available there.

I am sharing this information with you to let you know that the HOH is all about helping our fellow man by showing love and dignity. We are devoted to being a good place for them to be while they are rebuilding their lives one day at a time.

All of this is to say "THANK YOU-THANK YOU-THANK YOU!" It is YOU our donors that make the HOH mission possible. Without the love that you show each and every month our doors would not remain open! From the Board of Directors, the staff, myself and all our past, present, and future guests we want you to know that God?s love being shown through YOU plays the biggest role in the future of many people! To God be the glory!

God Bless,
-Stephen Anderson, Director

HOH President's Message

The calendar page has turned to September and we are quickly approaching the last days of 2010. Hard as that may be to believe, I find myself more astounded by the fact that this organization has come as far as it has as quickly as it has in the short time that we have been in existence.

Consider this: on New Year's Day 2009 (not that long ago!) no one had ever heard or thought of the House of Hope. This body came together in the early days of that year when a crisis came to our community and our area's homeless found themselves without any safe shelter alternatives. Because of an entrepreneurial spirit, a creative vision, and a collaborative effort of scores of dedicated citizens in our city a new ministry was born. Within ten days of that year's beginning we were open for guests to come and be ministered to through the House of Hope.

And come they have! Along with doing all of the necessary work that goes into creating a non-profit organization (too much to detail here!), the heart of the House of Hope's ministry has been focused on serving the men, women, and children who come to us in need of care. That is the reason for our existence. Already this year we have served more guests than we did in all of 2009 and there are still more months to go before we bid farewell to 2010. Our staff is daily meeting the needs of neighbors who have nowhere else to turn.

We could not carry on this work if it were not for the hundreds of friends who have embraced us and underwritten our efforts to make a positive impact on this community. There is no way that we could function without the individuals, churches, civic organizations, and businesses all around this area who regularly write checks, volunteer time, and give freely to insure that there is a safe, supportive environment for folks to find when they enter the House of Hope.

As we look back over all that has happened to bring us to this point, we as an organization are a thankful people. As we look forward to all that is in store, we are a hopeful people. We invite you to join us in the continuing work of ministering to the homeless in our area. Plan to visit with us, make a gift to us, and share your time with us in the weeks that remain of this year. You are always welcome at the House of Hope!

Grace and peace,
Stephen Cook
President

the attention of Bob Wiles, Treasurer, Post Office Box 1197, Danville, VA 24543.

This documentation is required in order for the House of Hope to send the needed receipt that is required by IRS for charitable gifts of $250 or more.

Please know that we are deeply grateful not only for the hundreds of donors who have lent their support in 2009, but also for the pledge commitments that have already been received for 2010.
