House of Hope Fundraising and Improvements Continue
Last month we received the affirmative vote from the Danville City Council allowing House of Hope access to Community Development Block Grant funds in the amount of $25,000. Since that time the process of securing bids and preparing detailed plans for our kitchen renovation, security system update, storage room and women's lounge creation has been set into motion. Thanks to the oversight of one of our board members, Chuck Van Allen, we hope to finalize project planning in the weeks to come and begin the work shortly thereafter. This, coupled with the improvements already made that allowed us to receive our
certificate of occupancy, promises to significantly enrich the environment that our guests call home!
While we remain grateful for the support shown us by our many friends throughout the community we are also aware of the fact that there is a continuing need to tell the story of the House of Hope and the vital role that it plays in our city. We welcome the opportunity to meet with church groups, civic organizations, or others to share the good news of what is happening in the lives of those who come to the corner of Patton and Ridge Streets where the shelter is located. If you would like to schedule a speaker to visit with your group please contact Dr. CAM McIntire, pastor of College Park Baptist Church, at 434.793.2365 or collegeparkpastor@verizon.net.
The HOH Fundraising Committee is in the process of making grant applications and seeking the support of organizations that share our sense of need for ministering to the most at-risk individuals in our community. We hope to secure funding from these sources that will serve as a complement to the gifts that are given by you, the many individuals and groups, who are the backbone of this organization's mission!
A Special Thank You To All Who Have Generously Given To Help Make This A Success
A Special Thank-You to our Donor Organizations Who Generously Give to Help Make This a Success
We send a huge thank you to all the monthly supporters of the House of Hope. Your faithful gift of just $10 or more per month ensures a comfortable place for the homeless of our area. God bless you; from the guests, board and director of your House of Hope!

Message From The Director
Good morning from the House of Hope. Our guests are so
blessed to have food and a great place to stay while
they are in the process of rebuilding their lives. We
have had over 92 guests here at HOH since the middle
of January. That's 92 people that have had a place to
sleep, eat, relax and regroup.
We thank God for all of our supporters: without you we
would not be here at all! We still have many things to
get in place and with your continued help and our
future supporters we will be just fine!
As of this writing we have four women and 10 men
staying with us. These numbers change daily. They get
up every morning by eight o'clock and are out looking
for ways to improve their lives by ten o?clock. YOU,
our supporters, have made a difference in many lives
and continue to do so!
Please keep us in your prayers and know that we love
you and appreciate all that you do to make the House
of Hope a success. We will be putting together some
new projects in the near future and will need all the
support from our loving community that we can get.
God bless each and every one of you for all your
prayers and efforts to make the House of Hope a home
for our guests while they are rebuilding their lives.
If you ever need information about the House of Hope
or would even like to visit and see firsthand how your
efforts make a difference in so many lives just call
me, Director Stephen M. Anderson, at 434.549.1459 and
we will set up a time to meet.

Needs Volunteer Support
One of the vital needs that the House of Hope meets
for its guests each evening is the provision of a
hot meal. Although we are not able to prepare and
cook food in our facility at this time, because of
a partnership with Danville Regional Medical Center
that allows us to pick up and serve the excess of
their evening meal, our guests are well fed every
evening. But, we need volunteers to assist us in
keeping this service flowing smoothly!
We are calling for churches, civic groups, and any
other interested individuals to sign up for a week
of volunteering (Monday-Friday) at the evening meal.
As few as two people per night are needed to drive
to the hospital and pick up the pans of food, deliver
them to the HOH, assist with serving and then clean up.
The total time commitment for an evening of volunteering
is approximately 90 minutes. Would you be interested
in serving our neighbors in need in this way? If so,
please contact me as soon as possible at 434.793.8331
or s.cook@fbcdanville.com. Our hope is to have a
schedule in place and volunteers at work before the
end of the month!

Outback Fundraiser Brings in $2,413.00
Much appreciation is due all the participants in the
August 22, 2009 Outback fundraiser. Our records
indicate that a total of 80 tickets and meals served
were sold. Tickets sold for $25.00 each and $20.00 of
the sale price is tax deductible.
Our faithful donors enjoyed a delicious meal with
others as we celebrated the work of the House of Hope.
I had the opportunity to greet everyone and Vice
President and First Baptist Pastor Rev. Stephen Cook
prayed the blessing. Director Steve Anderson was
present and greeted each table personally and thanked
everyone for their support.
It was a bit unusual as the members of the Board of
Directors greeted incoming guests, took beverage
orders, served tables, kept glasses full, wiped down
the tables and set up for customers when Outback
opened for business at 3 o?clock. Some of our board
members may have discovered a new line of work if the
need arises. It was a great day with smiles and
appreciation expressions all around.
Board member and proprietor Jimmy Russell said, It
was a pleasure doing it (the fundraiser) to help out
the House of Hope, and well worth the time regardless
of the amount of the money raised. Not everyone can
donate monetarily. We can donate food and services and
it's a pleasure to do so.
We are all very grateful to Jimmy and his staff, all
those of you who purchased tickets or made donations
or left tips. Our House of Hope guests will benefit
directly from this great day.
Do continue to pray for us and know that your gifts
each month, no matter how small, are of great benefit
as we replenish our depleted funds from the renovation
and strive to meet the daily needs of our homeless
citizens.
