Message From The Director

Greetings from the director and all of our guests!!!

We had one man receive salvation in Christ two weeks ago in our Sunday morning service here at HOH!!! Praise be to God!!!

It is such a great feeling to know that we are making a difference in so many lives. Thanks to our present and future supporters we will continue to bless the less fortunate citizens of our community. Please know that we appreciate all that you do and especially all your prayers for us here at HOH.

God Bless,
-Stephen Anderson, Director

What the Shelter Needs

This is a question that is often asked of us. Our largest need is in the area of financial support. Let me share with you why that is the case. Currently we do not cook at the HOH due to code restrictions.

Through an arrangement with Danville Regional Medical Center we pick up the evening meal each week night and our guests eat a delicious and healthy dinner. We continue to need churches, Sunday School classes or families to assist with the pick up and serving of these meals. Our guests eat their lunch meal at the Salvation Army. Their breakfast consists of pastries, cereals, fruit and so on. Right now we are good on food.

Our clothing needs are met through a partnership with Salvation Army. When we have clothing donations we direct the donors to the Salvation Army Thrift Store, and when our guests need clothes we provide them with a voucher and they get their clothes there.

Financially, however, we continue to have many demands upon us. In order to meet the requirements of the city codes and provide our guests a home, nearly all of our existing funds were depleted. Our monthly rent/mortgage is a substantial cost to us, as well as the electric bill, the phone bill, cable bill, payroll, insurance, gas, miscellaneous supplies, legal and accounting, the newsletter, office supplies and postage, equipment and furniture, and repairs and maintenance.

So our monthly expenses are significant and remain our greatest need. We are so very grateful for every $10/month donation from our 120 Club members (partners giving $10/month for 12 months). The larger gifts are a wonderful blessing.

Other than finances, we need folks to join others twice yearly and provide the pickup, delivery and service of our evening hot meal. This would be Monday to Friday for about 90 minutes each evening and as few as two people could do it. We need pillows for the beds as well as a portable refrigerator and a small television.

The citizens of Danville are continuing to prove their heart over and over again. During these last few weeks we here at the HOH have been at or near capacity with our guest load. While the demands are great, Danville's heart is greater. From the bottom of our
hearts our guests, director and board want to express an abundance of thanks to all of you for making your House of Hope possible.
Rev. Donnie Anderson
President, Board of Directors

House of Hope
Welcomes A New Staff Member

Last month saw a new face join the team of those serving our area's most at-risk residents through the ministry of the House of Hope. The Board of Directors unanimously approved the creation of a night manager's position to staff the shelter each evening. This position has been added to our monthly financial commitments and allows us the opportunity to provide much-needed relief to our director, Steve Anderson. Our night manager, Jerry Gunn, officially began his work with us after completion of his training period on October 1. He will work closely with our director to insure that our guests are provided a safe, clean, and care-filled environment that affords them much needed shelter and support during the transition from homelessness to sustainable living. Mr. Gunn will work four evenings each week, from 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. In addition, he will be on duty on the fourth weekend of each month. David Cox, our weekend manager on the second weekend of each month, will continue to keep his regular schedule.

For the more than nine months that the House of Hope has been in operation we have been the beneficiaries of the dedicated love and unwavering commitment to care for others that has been modeled by our director, Steve Anderson. We have asked him to do an enormous amount of work under extraordinary circumstances. He has not only done those things, but he has done them well. The addition of a night manager's position provides Mr. Anderson with a 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. weekday schedule. He will also continue to work one evening each week and two weekends each month. As always, he will be our on-call resource 24 hours a day.

All three of these who serve our community through their work at the House of Hope are owed a deep debt of gratitude. Your expressions of kindness, support, and generosity allow them to carry on this ministry of compassion for those in need of our services every day of the year.

Rev. Stephen Cook
Vice-President
