Message From The Director
We have a wonderful elderly couple staying with us at the shelter. Their story is that they got behind on their utility bills and were evicted from their home. They are such fine folks. It grieves my heart to see what has happened to them.
I am afraid that we may see this happening more often. We at the House of Hope will see them through to a better time. Please keep them in your prayers.
Recently I got a phone call from two of our former guests. Robert and William who now live in Georgia are working and doing well - Praise God! These are the good kind of phone calls we love to hear, and your faithful giving and prayers make those possible!
Since the middle of January, when we first opened our doors we have had a total of 50 guests visit with us overnight. At this time we have eight men and two women here at the HOH. Please keep all of our guests (present and past) and your House of Hope in your prayers, for we know there is much power and blessings that comes from God when people pray. We are so blessed to live in a community that cares so much about the less fortunate. We would like all our supporters to know how grateful we are for all your donations, love and the many prayers you pray for us. May God bless you greatly for all you do!
-Stephen Anderson, Director
In Our New Home!
We are all so sincerely happy to be in our new home in downtown Danville, 206 South Ridge Street. Director Steve Anderson and our present guests completed the move on Monday, May 18th.
The building is currently undergoing some "retrofitting" to better position us to provide proper care for our guests. God's Pit Crew, a partner organization has once again come through for the House of Hope with providing and building our new bunk beds. God's Pit Crew is such a blessing to those who are hurting and we in Danville are fortunate to have them
here and representing us elsewhere. Code requirement changes are being perfected, showers are going in, and our guests are getting acquainted with their new surroundings.
With our new location, House of Hope is central to the services needed for our guests; The Danville Public Library, Social Services, the Free Clinic and other services. Your faithful prayer and financial support has made this move possible and the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, the Director and all our guests are extremely grateful.
There have obviously been some challenges to our relocation; the least of which is not the financial costs involved. Due to the code requirements the costs of this move are substantial. It has depleted much of the finances our faithful House of Hope partners have donated. The move has also delayed our newsletter going out on schedule and therefore this month's finances have been slow in coming in. We?d be so grateful for you to send in this month's donation as soon as possible. We are often asked, "How can $10 per month help anybody" The truth is $10 is such a small amount, but when it is multiplied by our entire faithful partner?s giving, it is a tremendous blessing. Thank you for your quick response!
Another much published challenge has been some opposition to our move from downtown merchants and those concerned with the safety of the students at Galileo Magnet High School. These concerns have been addressed and we will be good neighbors downtown.
House of Hope is a partner in the downtown revitalization efforts. Many merchants are partners of the House of Hope already and others are coming on board. Churches that support the House of Hope are being asked to encourage their constituents to support downtown revitalization by shopping downtown. When a church bulletin is presented some downtown businesses are giving a percentage of their business as a monthly donation to the House of Hope. These businesses will be listed in our newsletter.
Guests of the House of Hope who violate the law are not permitted to remain at the House of Hope. Going on the Galileo Magnet High School property is reason for eviction from House of Hope. We will be good neighbors downtown and be a part of the solution and not the problem. One final word, while it remains a work in progress and constitutes an enormous amount of time, everyone involved with House of Hope are honored to serve our guests and thus serve our Danville city residents through this effort. Thank you, partners of the House of Hope for such an opportunity.
