Message From The Director

The Director's Article of Appreciation

There are many people and groups who have given their time, money and talents to provide meals, clean, paint, repair and bring needed supplies to the shelter. Please know we are very grateful for all that you do to help us here at the House of Hope. What a wonderful community we live in! I feel so blessed to be the director for the HOH.

At this time we have eight men and one woman as guests and these numbers change daily. Guests are invited to devotions every morning. We pray and read from God's Word.

When you're at the end of your road and you don't know
where to go or who to turn to, isn't it wonderful to be able to call on God for His help and protection? Sadly, many people won't call on Him until they get to the end of their means. We stand ready to assist in any ways that we are able as our guests get back on their feet.

Thank you so much Danville and the surrounding areas for the support you give to your House of Hope! Please know that because of your kindness and love for your fellow neighbors there are people tonight who won't be sleeping out in the cold behind a building, hungry and afraid. In such a fallen world it is truly a blessing to see people responding with love and kindness. Thank you for your kind deeds and all your prayers for your House of Hope.

God Bless,
-Stephen Anderson, Director

HOH President's Message

At the House of Hope we are regularly reminded of the fact that this is a ministry that touches more lives than we can ever fully know. Recently I reviewed statistics that our director assembled from our first year of operation and I was humbled to see that, in slightly more than 12 months of operation at a 16 bed maximum, we have served more than 170 guests in need of safe shelter and a caring system of support. Were it not for the dedication of staff, volunteers, and donors who support this effort those guests would not have had access to this kind of help anywhere else in the city of Danville. All of us are partners in something vital and I am grateful for each person who
reaches out to undertake this effort!

One of the most significant developments in the physical facility at the House of Hope is that construction is underway on our kitchen space. Thanks to the funds received through the Community Development Block Grant that was awarded by the city of Danville in the latter days of 2009 we will soon be able to prepare and serve food in the shelter. While we anticipate and sincerely hope that our wonderful relationship with Danville Regional Medical Center that provides us our meals each weeknight will
continue, we also look forward to having a more functional facility that includes kitchen space. Chuck Van Allen from the House of Hope board of directors has been the point person on this and several other projects that are vital to the operation of the ministry. We could not do what we do without Chuck's leadership and service. We look forward to the day later this spring, tentatively scheduled for mid-May, when we will be able to host an open house for the
community and all of our supporters. Watch the April newsletter for more details on the event. A team of volunteers from our board and beyond are working on this so that will fall in conjunction with the anniversary of our move to the Ridge Street location.

In the meantime, please continue to lend your support through prayer, time, and financial contributions to this work that we are about. We are a strong and essential ministry presence in our region thanks to each of you working with us! A team of volunteers from our board and beyond are working on this so that it will fall in conjunction with the anniversary of our move to the Ridge Street location.

Grace and peace,
Stephen Cook
President
