Message From The Director
The Director's Article of Appreciation
June has officially arrived! The green of the earth
has once again awakened. What a wonderful time for new
beginnings; a time to refocus on life itself.
Here at House of Hope I see people starting to do just
that: focusing on where they are in life and what is
really important!
Waking up to new beginnings: beginnings only that have
been made possible because of the love of God being
shown every day through your support for your House of
Hope. It is very exciting to watch people helping
people.
Through churches, businesses, and even people who come
up to someone from the board or staff out of the blue
wanting to know What can I do to help? this ministry
is sustained. I would like to say thank you so much
for your past and future support. There are many
things that go into running a shelter, and only by the
grace of God are we able to do so.
We received many needed supplies after last months
newsletter, but we are still in need of a few other
supplies such as shaving cream, dish detergent (not
for a dishwasher), Pine-Sol, 409, and some shampoo.
Again, thanks for the supplies that we received last
month.
As the Director for your House of Hope, I want to
personally invite you and some of your friends and
neighbors to come see firsthand what a wonderful place
God has provided here in Danville for our neighbors
that are struggling with getting by at this time in
their lives; those who need a hand up, not a hand out!
People need to know that someone still cares and they
get that feeling from you through your House of Hope.
Give me a call and lets set up a time for you to come
see firsthand that you can and that you are making
a difference in many lives here at House of Hope.
To drop off supplies or set up an appointment to see
your shelter please call me at 434.549.1459.
God Bless,
-Stephen Anderson, Director
HOH President's Message
If you were unable to attend the open house event on
the fourth Sunday in May then you missed quite a
treat! Neighbors from all around our area came to the
House of Hope to see firsthand the incredible work
that goes on at the corner of Patton and Ridge Streets
every night of the month, every month of the year. We
saw well over 100 people come to tour the facility,
meet the staff and directors, and enjoy delicious food
donated by our friends at Outback Steakhouse and some
of our supporting churches.
Words of appreciation are due to everyone who came to
take part in the open house event. Our staff members,
Steve Anderson and Jerry Gunn, went far beyond the
call of duty to prepare the shelter and create an
environment of welcome and warmth that illustrated
precisely the kind of care we seek to share with our
homeless guests. I would be remiss if I did not
mention by name a core group of volunteers who
coordinated and planned for that day, as well: Archer
McIntire, Helen McKee, Jimmy Russell, Elva Wasson,
Gary Wasson, and Cheryl Wells were instrumental in
planning a magnificent event. Likewise, several
businesses, churches, and other organizations also had
a hand in lending support to the days festivities,
too: Amy Cook Designs, Christ Episcopal Church,
College Park Baptist Church, First Baptist Church,
Galileo High School, Karens Hallmark, Motley Florist,
Outback Steakhouse, New Life Community Church, and
West Main Baptist Church.
All of this is to say that the event on May 23 was a
living illustration of what makes the House of Hope
the unique resource that it is in our city. We are an
organization that is built on the collaborative,
cooperative spirit of people uniting to serve other
people. We pitch in, we lend a hand, we share our
resources, we give our gifts and then we witness the
power of a community banding together.
For all who have given to make this ministry a
reality, we thank you. For all who have now seen
firsthand the impact that is being made in peoples
lives, go and tell others. The more we have to share
in the service of our guests, the greater the good
that we will ultimately do for our community!
Grace and peace,
Stephen Cook
