Message From The Director

Many wonderful things have been going on to help the HOH. We feel so blessed that you, our community, reaches out to help the less fortunate.

Recently the Unity Presbyterian Church on Franklin Turnpike had a wonderful night of gospel music and all the proceeds went to the House of Hope homeless shelter. I along with our guests at the shelter, and the board of directors would like to thank them for their love and support.

Without the love of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ we would not be able to continue. The total amount from the proceeds came to: $430.96. Wow! That was great! Again we want to say thank you for all that you do.

"Your Stuff & Kid's Stuff? recently held fund raisers for the House of Hope. Three different parking lot fund raisers from three Saturdays in a row brought in a total of $701.45. Wow!!! That is awesome!

All the merchandise was donated by ?Your Stuff & Kid's Stuff?. Everything there went for a buck a piece. Now that's a lot of selling. The sales went from 8 am to 11 am each Saturday morning. Volunteer work was done by students from Westover Christian Academy and James Madison University.

Many, many thanks goes out to all of you for all your dedication and hard work that you?ve done for us here at the House of Hope Shelter. It's people like you that make a difference in a world with so many problems. Thank you for thinking of us at such a time as this!

As of this writing we have had a total of 62 guests stay at the shelter for a short period of time. At our present time we have six guests all on their way to improving their lives.

We at the House of Hope feel so blessed to live in a community that is so caring. Our guests are out each day looking for work and programs to help move them forward in a positive direction. We thank you Danville and the surrounding areas for your love and acts of kindness.
-Stephen Anderson, Director

Your House of Hope Faces...A $105,000.00 Need?

Partners, first of all I want to express how grateful we are for your heartfelt generosity for the guests of the House of Hope. Your prayers, financial gifts and labors of love have been a blessing and encouragement to us all. Without you at a very critical time many homeless men, women and children would have been on the streets of our city during some bone chilling weather. Your compassion is without question.

Today because of your continued prayers and financial support we remain a source of hope for the most at risk citizens of Danville and the surrounding area. Men, women, and children continue to be welcomed here at your House of Hope. Here they will find warm meals, a comfortable safe place to rest and sleep, and a plan to get them back on their feet and on a path of finding suitable employment, a permanent home and in some cases reunification with their families.

They find a hand-up; all made possible by you. Our recent move to 206 South Ridge Street is requiring a tremendous amount of renovations to make our new home more suitable for our guests. The installation of permanent showers, additional fire safety equipment, and all the code requirements are very costly. While these expenses are not surprising to us, they do provide us with a huge need.

But with every need is an equal opportunity. This is our opportunity to once again show our heart. We want you to be assured that the finances you give are properly spent. Accountability and oversight are provided by an executive committee and a board of directors. We list their names in our newsletter each month so you can feel comfortable with your decision to support this effort.

While no one can do everything, everyone can do something. Please do not feel pressured, but if you can give an extra special gift this month please do so. It will be such a blessing to us. This is a huge hurdle for us, but certainly not outside our reach. Send you tax deductible gift to P.O. Box 1197 Danville VA 24543.

Finally, I want to say thank you to the churches, businesses, benevolent orzanizations and citizens for your faithfulness each month. Even $10 added to the gifts of others helps us toward meeting the needs of our guests. We are so grateful.

Our director or other House of Hope representatives will be glad to come to your church, business, or organization to share information and give an opportunity for support. Simply call Director Steve Anderson at 434-549-1459 and request a representative. From all our guests and staff, again thank you.
