Message From The Director

The Director's Article of Appreciation

Wow! What hot weather we are having this year already. Our guests are blessed to have the House of Hope as a place of safe shelter. A nice shower in the evenings, and good, hot meals provided by Danville Regional Medical Center are but a couple of the blessings they receive here. It is a wonderful place for our guests to relax and refresh while trying to figure out their next move in life. All of this is made possible because of you! Without your love and kindness we would not be here. As I write this article, since January 1 we have served a total of 102 guests! Last
year we had 131 guests for the whole year and it is only the beginning of July! Again, thank you for all of your support. There would be no HOH if not for you.

I also want to thank “Your Stuff & Kid’s Stuff” for hosting several recent fundraisers for HOH on three different Saturday mornings. They did this last year for us and did well, but this year they raised a total of $1060.00, passing 2009’s total. Wow! All of the merchandise was donated by them. Everything went for one dollar a piece. Volunteer work was done by students from Westover Christian Academy and James Madison University. Many thanks go out to these fine folks. It was very hot on those Saturday mornings. Please know that your family is such a blessing to all of us here at the House of Hope!

Please keep the homeless folks here at HOH in your prayers and know that God blesses those that bless others. We here at HOH are very thankful for all that this community has done and keeps on doing to insure that our doors stay open to serve those in need. Blessings to you from your House of Hope!

God Bless,
-Stephen Anderson, Director

HOH President's Message

Danville’s House of Hope continues to carry out its mission of serving our city’s most at-risk residents in a time when the need for our ministry is especially pronounced. With recent news of two other helping agencies closing their doors – DOVES and Hope Harbor – we have seen a significant increase in the volume of calls and requests for the care that we offer.

There are a host of challenges associated with serving the under-served citizens of our community. Issues associated with addiction recovery and domestic violence are complex and demand specialized treatment and care. While the House of Hope is a vital part of our city’s broad network of helping agencies, we simply are not equipped to meet the unique needs associated with those who were served by the agencies recently closed. As our city continues to experience a host of challenges that contribute to homelessness, addictive and violent behaviors, we find the need for services to be more pronounced than ever.

Please know that the staff and directors of the House of Hope are doing everything within our limited range of power to assist with care and referral services as we are able. Some of the members of our board are working with other leaders in the community to lend insight and wisdom that we have gained from being an upstart organization to people who are looking at ways to meet the needs for more expansive services in our city. We stand ready to work as partners with others who share a common commitment to compassionate care for the neglected and vulnerable of our community.

We have seen it demonstrated time and again over the span of our organization’s existence: we are citizens of a community where neighbors unite to serve one another. We are the beneficiaries of your generous support, your faithful prayers, and your ongoing commitment to help those who struggle to find hope. Please know that we are deeply appreciative of all that you do to make this work happen every day of the year. We also look forward to seeing new, vital ministry partners join us in serving God’s people in this good place we call home.

Grace and peace,
Stephen Cook
President

Please know that we are deeply grateful not only for the hundreds of donors who have lent their support in 2009, but also for the pledge commitments that have already been received for 2010.
