Message From The Director

The Director's Article of Appreciation

Wow! What a hot summer we are having this year. Weather like we are experiencing makes us thank God all the more for the House of Hope! As the director for HOH I can tell you our guests are happy to have a place to come and escape the extreme heat.

The staff, board of directors, and I ? and most of all our guests - here at the shelter would like to thank all our supporters for the continued support that you give to us in this ministry. Through the donations of your time, money, love and your prayers you are our backbone and through you, God is doing wonderful things!

I get phone calls from people everyday with stories of hard times and sometimes they are so emotional that they can hardly speak. The first thing that we want to let them know is that they are not alone: that we care and the good people in this community care also! It is a great privilege for me to be blessed with this position. I do not take it lightly! I thank God for allowing me to be a part of such a wonderful ministry!

As of this date we have had 110 guests this year. Again, thank you for all you do to bless our guests while they are rebuilding their lives. To God be the glory!

May you have many good things come your way. Please remember to keep all of us here at HOH in your prayers!

God Bless,
-Stephen Anderson, Director

HOH President's Message

The House of Hope exists today because we are served by people of compassionate care. This is a statement that I have made time and again in various forums around our community where I have the privilege to share the story of what this ministry is doing in our area. From our dedicated staff and directors to the scores of volunteers who give of their time, energy, skills, and financial means, we are richly blessed. The compassionate care of giving people makes this ministry work.

During some of the hottest days of the summer we saw firsthand evidence of people?s deep care for the work that we do in the city of Danville. A team of volunteers from Second Baptist Church in Richmond traveled to the area for a week of hands-on mission work and service. During their stay in Danville they constructed a new fence that not only adds privacy and security to the House of Hope property, but it greatly enhances the overall look of the premises. Their labors have resulted in a wonderful blessing forthe shelter and the neighborhood!

Our friends from Richmond worked alongside our director, Steve Anderson, and two of our guests who are staying at the House of Hope. Together they formed a magnificent partnership that helped move us further along with our plans for making this space the most efficient and attractive place of refuge for our area?s homeless.

We are looking forward to yet another renovation step being taken in coming months as we finalize plans for completing the kitchen and pantry spaces in the shelter. Though we have occupied the Ridge Street building for more than a year we have not had to hurry to complete this project because of the partnership we share with Danville Regional Medical Center providing our meals each evening. Completing the kitchen upgrade will allow us greater flexibility with food service and preparation, though, and will make an already great place that much better!

If you are interested in volunteering to participate in this or any other project at the House of Hope, please do not hesitate to call or come by. We exist because we are served by people of compassionate care and we thank all of our supporters for joining with us to serve!

Grace and peace,
Stephen Cook

Anyone who needs a tax receipt for contributions sent directly to American National Bank for the House of Hope’s account should send a copy of the paid check to
the attention of Bob Wiles, Treasurer, Post Office Box 1197, Danville, VA 24543.

This documentation is required in order for the House of Hope to send the needed receipt that is required by IRS for charitable gifts of $250 or more.

Please know that we are deeply grateful not only for the hundreds of donors who have lent their support in 2009, but also for the pledge commitments that have already been received for 2010.
