Message From The Director

The Director's Article of Appreciation

Wow, finally the sun is starting to shine! We thank God for the change in the weather. There are no freezing temperatures to worry about for the homeless in our surrounding areas and we are glad for that.

Since the beginning of January and, as of the end of March, we have had a total of 58 guests. There have been 44 men, 13 women, and one child. This number is up from last year. We had a total of 131 guests through the year 2009. As you can see the numbers are already higher; judging by our first quarter we might serve more than 200 guests during 2010.

Thank you so much for all of your prayers and donations of time and financial support. Without YOU we would not be here or be able to continue. We can never thank you enough! There are so many things that go into maintaining a homeless shelter and it is through your love and kindness that we are able to extend that love here at your House of Hope. To be able to show that, when you are down on your luck and things are more than you can bare, this community does not turn its back on people who are in need - that is a powerful thing indeed! God blesses those who bless others!

God Bless,
-Stephen Anderson, Director

HOH President's Message

Hopefully you have taken note of the announcement below about the House of Hope open house event on Sunday, May 23. This comes at the one year anniversary of our move to the Ridge Street location and will offer us an opportunity to show the community the progress that we have made in offering ministry to the homeless in our area. This event promises to be a wonderful occasion and I hope that you will take part in this milestone celebration.

One of the areas in which we have made progress in our work recently is through our website: www.danvillehoh.com. While the site continues to undergo revisions and updates we have added a feature that makes it easier for individuals and organizations to support the ministry.

Secure online giving is now available to anyone interested in making a financial gift to the House of Hope. By clicking on the “donate” tab at the top of the home page you can make a gift via credit card, debit card, or e-check. There is an option to make a one-time gift or you can set up a regularly scheduled contribution. If you are one who participates in the $10 or more per month plan, perhaps you will find this to be a helpful way to manage your gifts. If you have not yet signed up to participate in this endeavor to
have 1000 contributors sharing $10 or more per month, then consider if the online giving option is for you.

Please be assured that every contribution made through the site is handled by PayPal and is 100% secure. Our treasurer maintains all contribution records in confidence and we have worked closely with our website hosting agents, Steven and Chris Boaze, to insure the highest protection of our contributors.

We remain grateful for the support and care that we receive from so many around our community. Were it not for the faithfulness that you model we would not be able to do what we do through the House of Hope!

Grace and peace,
Stephen Cook
President

Anyone who needs a tax receipt for contributions sent directly to American National Bank for the House of Hope’s account should send a copy of the paid check to
the attention of Bob Wiles, Treasurer, Post Office Box 1197, Danville, VA 24543.

This documentation is required in order for the House of Hope to send the needed receipt that is required by IRS for charitable gifts of $250 or more.

Please know that we are deeply grateful not only for the hundreds of donors who have lent their support in 2009, but also for the pledge commitments that have already been received for 2010.
