Homelessness can strike anyone. They are your Girlfriend. Your Boyfriend. Your Wife. Your Husband. Your Daughter. Your Son. Your Sister. Your Brother. Your Mother. Your Father, or your best friend. There's a person without shelter or food. And their safety is our community effort to end homelessness - for good!
History
After much prayer and following failed attempts to have others lead an effort to open a homeless shelter and two large anonymous donations Rev. Donnie Anderson, Pastor of RiverOak Church of God agreed to lead the effort.
Danville's 150-plus homeless citizens out in the extreme 15 degree weather prompted a city and county wide effort to pull together to meet the needs of our homeless citizens. Through an anonymous $20,000 donation from two Danville Businessmen, interest began to mount and a small group of concerned citizens soon formed a steering committee to see what possibly could be done. Following the generous gift, a city-wide coalition addressed the needs of the homeless.
The steering committee's work done dissolved itself and today accountability and direction is provided by both an Executive Committee and a Board of Directors, all of course who donate their time and efforts Today, Danville's House of Hope homeless shelter strives to meet the various needs of our guests. In order to better position our guests in close proximity to the services they need we have changed locations and now reside in the Compson Building at 206 South Ridge Street. We look forward to being good neighbors in our new community and contribute to the revitalization of downtown Danville. |
